Switching up your wardrobe this summer? If you’re looking to spice up your style with something new, thrifting is the sustainable way to go. If you find clothes that don’t fit your style, you can choose to reuse by donating old clothes that don’t fit your style instead of throwing them away! Clothing donation is a good way to keep your carbon footprint small.
By giving your clothes, a second life instead of throwing them away, you will extend the life cycle of your clothing, keep them out of the landfill, and reduce the demand for low-quality, trend-based clothing production. Trends change, but sustainability never goes out of style
Before you donate, make sure your clothes are suitable for donation. Policies for acceptable clothing can vary depending on the organization you’re donating to, but here are some good guidelines:
Donation checklist:
- Clean and laundered
- No tears, holes, or missing buttons
- No visible stains
- Gently worn
- Working zippers & other closures
Once your clothes are packed up for donation, check where your nearest donation location is. You won’t have a hard time finding one: there are 60 locations across Franklin County that will gladly take your donations. You can find your closest location here!
If you are donating to a Goodwill Columbus location, become a member of their Do Good program and earn discounts and rewards!
Our fashion tastes can grow and change with the seasons, but that doesn’t mean you can’t say goodbye to your old wardrobe sustainably. When the time comes to part with your old clothes, bring them to a donation location where they can find a second life in someone else’s wardrobe!
